3 Tips To Properly Maintain The Glass In Your Grocery Freezers

When you take a walk through the average grocery store, there are a lot of fixtures and implements that make selling certain products to the public plausible, and glass freezer cases are one of those implements. Having freezer doors with glass allows customers to scan the shelves of the freezer without having to open the door just to take a look. The glass in these freezers doors is something you will want to maintain for the long term. Here are a few tips to maintain the glass in your grocery store freezers to avoid problems.

Call a pro to have small chips, cracks, or dings repaired immediately.

The tiniest cracks, chips, dings, or imperfections in the glass should be immediately tended to by calling a commercial glass installation company for help. Some issues can be repaired without full replacement, but a lot of times, a full pane of glass will have to be installed. Glass freezer doors with chips and dings can be more prone to shattering if they have small damages in the glass, which can be dangerous for your customers. Therefore, it is most common for a glass pane to have to be replaced if there are small problems.

Periodically tighten hardware holding the glass in place.

The freezer doors get opened and closed perhaps just as much or more as your store's entryway doors. This constant repeat movement can shimmy the hardware loose that holds the doors together and holds the glass taught. Every once in a while, take the time to go over the doors and tighten up all the hardware. It is not uncommon for loose hardware to cause a piece of freezer glass to fall out and break. If you don't have time to tend to tightening all the hardware, a commercial glass installation service can likely help you with the task.

Clean the interior of the glass on a regular basis.

Many stores make the mistake of only tending to the exterior of the glass doors of their commercial freezers when they are cleaning the glass, but the interiors of the doors also need to be cleaned just as often. The interiors of freezer door glass are actually more prone to collecting mold and mildew particles, which can get bad enough that it seeps between double glass panes where it is almost impossible to remove. Make sure your cleaning crew is paying just as much attention to getting the inside of the glass clean.
