3 Tips To Avoid Being Pulled Over By The Police While Driving

No one wants to be given a traffic ticket. They're expensive, and the experience of being pulled over by a police officer is often unpleasant and nervewracking. Fortunately, you have a great deal of control over whether or not you're pulled over by the police. Here are three tips to avoid being pulled over while driving:

1. Obey the rules of the road.

It sounds simple enough, but many people grow lax in their driving and break traffic laws as a matter of course. If you want to avoid a run in with the police, come to a full and complete stop at stop signs and obey the speed limit at all times. Driving this way may take you a few extra minutes to arrive at your destination, but it can save you a lot of money on traffic tickets.

2. Check your car lights at least once a month.

Driving with a burned out headlight or signal light is a good way to be written a "fix-it ticket." Unfortunately, you may not notice when one of these lights burns out, especially if you typically drive during the day. That's why it's a good idea to visually inspect your lights at least once a month.

The easiest way to do this is to grab a friend. Ask them to stand outside your car while you turn each of the lights on in turn. If you don't have someone to help you, you can do it yourself by leaving the car running and walking around the vehicle to check your lights. Just be careful not to lock yourself out of the car.

3. Keep your windshield in good condition.

A broken or dirty windshields is a driving hazard that can get you pulled over by a cop. Make sure to keep your windshield in good shape to avoid a ticket. Keep your windshield wiper fluid topped up so you can clean away any bird droppings or mud that may accumulate while you're driving. You should also make sure you wash your car regularly, which will clean away any dirt buildup on your front and rear windshields.

Take broken windshields seriously. While minor nicks and cracks may not seriously obstruct your vision, these small imperfections can grow larger over time. As soon as you notice damage to your windshield, call a windshield repair service. Many of them make house calls, so you won't even need to take your car to the repair shop.
