2 Different Kinds Of Glass That Are Used In Your Car
When it comes to your car, all glass is not created the same. The glass in your car has to be tougher than the glass that is in your windows at home or that you use to drink from. That's because your car's windows and windshield are also part of your car's safety system, which means that the glass has to stand up to a lot of things. One way in which your car's windshields are part of the safety features is that they help tie the frame together, and give the car more rigidity. They also help to keep you from flying out of the car in the case of the accident. Even though the glass in your car windows and windshields are tough, they are different kinds of glass.
Laminated Glass
Your windshield is made out of laminated glass. Laminated glass is made by sandwiching adhesives or resins in between two or more pieces of glass. The windshield is made by taking one piece of glass, applying the adhesive or resin, then putting on the next piece of glass. If there is going to be more pieces of glass, they would be applied then. Then the glass sandwich is either heated up or pressed so that it becomes one cohesive unit. The reason for laminated glass is because the layers make stronger glass, and if the glass were to break, the adhesive will keep it from any broken pieces from falling on you.
Tempered Glass
Tempered glass is usually what's found in your car's passenger windows. Tempered glass tends to be thicker than normal glass. The way that tempered glass is made is that pieces of glass are pre-cut. Once they are cut into shape, they are put in a tempering furnace. While the pieces of glass are in the tempering furnace, they are heated up to a very high temperature. When they reach that particular temperature, they are pulled out of the furnace and cooled down quickly. Doing that will make the glass stronger, and it will also make it so that it breaks into chunks if it were to break, instead of shattering. The same thing can be done using certain chemicals.
If something happens to your car windows, you need to make sure that you find a professional auto glass repair service as soon as possible. They are an important part of your car's safety system, and you don't want to do anything that might negate that safety.
